Sweet Endings at Country Spice!

Country Spice @ West Tower, Tektite

It's still very clear to me when, together with some UP friends, I used to drive all the way to that Pasig area (across SM Center Pasig) to eat Mud Pie and Rocky Road at the original Country Spice. That was many, many, many moons ago (Libis was still an undeveloped grassy, empty lot... "tambakan ng patay").  I don't remember ordering anything but Mud Pie and Rocky Road, dessert made of ice cream, chocolate syrup, marshmallows, nuts, among others.

When I started a job teaching in Manila which took most of my time after school nawalan na ako ng time to make lakwatsa. I completely forgotten about Country Spice until I began working at Tektite almost two decades after. They still serve Mud Pie though smaller and less colorful and they took Rocky Road off the menu.

I don't remember if they served Frozen Brazo de Mercedes during my UP days but let me tell you that I really loved it, sobra! One caution though... nakaka-ngilo! But really... it's worth the fleeting discomfort.

Last Wednesday's Late Lunch at Friday's!

T.G.I. Friday’s @ SM MOA

After our event at the Music Hall in SM MOA, Discovery Channel Head and ACCESS-COO Mr. Jacque Ruby took the team (with DENR Director Theresa Lim) to a late lunch at T.G.I. Friday’s. I remember many moons ago when our college group would go and get wasted at the Glorietta branch. Again, that was many moons ago. They used to have a different menu then. Even the beverage list was a lot better.

Anyway, I had a dish I normally order when I feel stressed from too many choices in the menu… Fish and Chips. Well, Friday's Fish and Chips was okay. Not great but okay. The fish fingers were a bit dry and I like unpeeled potato wedges better than French fries. But the Tartar sauce saved the day. It was deliciously tart and the onion flavor was not too sharp (restaurants that serve very good Fish and Chips: Wicked and Alex III).

Dessert? The Team shared an order of Mud Pie which I ended up finishing.
