Alex III: Puto Bumbong!

Alex III Restaurant, Tomas Morato

You don't have to wait for Christmas to feast on Puto Bumbong. Alex III serves four fingers of that sticky, violet dessert with Muscovado and niyog. Try eating it with hot tea or like what I did... with Guinumis.

Alex III: Baked New Zealand Mussels & Camaron Rebosado!

Alex III Restaurant, Tomas Morato

It was a pleasant Friday (except for the horrendous traffic). It was overcast. Perfect for a pig-out... which was what we did at the Tomas Morato branch of Alex III.

Bakes New Zealand Mussels (P369)

The size of the mussels were not too small, not too big. Just right for this baked . Don't forget to squeeze the lime wedge. It adds a tart taste to the slightly browned cheese. And remember to better to finish everything before it gets cold!

Camaron Rebosado (P460)

I'm allergic to shrimps. When my tongue gets worked up, it swells and gets really itchy. I was kinda waiting for that to happen but it didn't. Good for me. Anyway, the shrimps were fresh and fried just right... golden yellow. Served with sweet chili sauce.

Gourmet Gelato!

Morelli's Gelato
Level 2/M3 East Wing, Shangri-la Plaza

I always see the Morelli's kiosk in Rockwell but never tried it. I really don't know why. It was only last Tuesday (September 24) that I finally tasted it with my BFF (I had to stop myself from getting another one since I was scheduled to attend this Bloggers Night at Rockwell). Now, I know already what a lot of people have been saying about this rich, creamy (and sinful!) gelato.

It was one unforgettable climax.

Ryzza Mae, The Baby is Hungry?

Be happy, baby...
Actually, hindi naman sad ang ating bunso... medyo hungry lang. Don't worry. Mommy Rizza was there to take of her superstar daughter. After a few bites of her favorite food, balik na naman ang energy ng ating Aleng Maliit! Pero, makikita sa ating behind-the-scenes video na kahit ganun ay professional na professional. Nakukuha pa ring mag-pose sa picture. Pro na pro!

Ryzza Mae: A Heart for Ate Belle!

Like what I've been saying, there's a special friendship between Ryzza Mae and Ate Belle. Mag-ateng mag-ate ang dalawa! We've seen in my past posts kung paano silang maglokohan, mag-laro at simpleng mag-usap. Tulad nang mahuli ng camera ko nang gumawa si Aleng Maliit ng heart out of paper just for her Ate Belle! How sweet! And touching!

Alex III: Guinumis!

Alex III Resto-Grille
2/F Robinsons Galleria, East Lane
EDSA cor Ortigas Ave. QC

Let's settle this. Guinumis is a drink and/or a dessert. And very Pinoy. I will never have my Guinumis with say, a burger (or a pizza) and I don't see myself ordering Guinumis with a can of soda. Why? Guinumis must be taken with Filipino meryenda like Puto Bumbong or Bibingka. Or with entrees like Pinakbet sa Bagnet or Chicken Barbeque. Or (like what we did) you may also take it as panghimagas.

Guinumis (P65)

Like Halo-Halo, Guinumis has crushed ice, gelatin, pinipig. Ang wala lang sa Halo-Halo... coconut milk which makes or breaks Guinumis. Alex III uses real gata and I think that they water it down with milk. Good! You know why? A lot of people couldn't tolerate thick gata. They start sweating, a few minutes after ingesting it. Sad for them. Anyway, next time I order it, I'll ask for more pinipig and why not? More coconut milk. Sarap!

Ryzza Mae, Hyper na Dancer!

She was extra-ordinarily hyper that day!
Taped ang The Ryzza Mae Show that day but she came in way before Eat Bulaga so she just played around burning her excess energy! Nagsayaw, tumakbo, nangulit at nakipagkwentuhan sa mga big bosses ng show, SVP for Creative, Ms. Jeny and Direk Poochie Rivera (who taught me to write, how love it and the discipline to do it right). Anyway, may napansin yata ako na merong new steps ang bunso, ha! Hmmm... let's watch!

Greek Taverna Cafe!

Greek Taverna Cafe
Better Living, Paranaque City

Tita Nelia bought me to the opening of Greek Taverna in Paranaque City She personally knows the owners and had done business with them in the past. The husband is a 100% Greek who has been operating a Greek restaurant who decided to transfer to this new place.

It was the resto-bar's soft opening and the food was free (we just paid for the drinks and dessert). We had slices of Octopus, Spanakorizo, Moussaka and Pastitisio with salad.

So, how was the food? Well, they opened that night and any business undergoes all kinds of problems on the first week. It was good that the food was free. Hope that were to fix whatever problem they're having.

Ryzza Mae & Tita Isabelle: Training sa Make-Up!

She's such a curious child na kung anong makita ay gustong subukan. Tulad na lang make-up. Inabutan niyang maglalagay ng make-up si Tita Isabelle at gusto niyang subukan ang lipstick at blush-on... not on her but on her EB co-host! At tuwang-tuwa siya when she got it right!

Ryzza Mae: Galit si Aleng Maliit??

Galit?? Well... kung ibabase sa snapshot niya rito, mukha nga siyang may kaaway. The truth is, it was just one of her many moods to be in character. And this one... isang galit na Aleng Maliit! Nakapamewang, naka-kunot ang noo and swaggered out of the room na parang may hinahanap sa  backstage! Psst... hindi na nakasama sa video (dahil masyadong madilim doon) pero talagang pinuntahan niya ay ang favorite pink bicycle niya. Amusing girl.

Alex III: Shrimp Tempura Maki & Japanese Crab Salad!

Alex III Restaurant
29 Matalino Street, QC

It didn't long for customers to adjust to the thought of having Japanese food side by side Alex III's classic barbeques (and Pinoy favorites) when it was introduced years back. People just came. And how.

At first, it was kinda odd seeing people using chopsticks in a, well, Filipino restaurant. I remember my mommy and daddy merrily eating Sushi with Chicken and Pork Barbeque (and my favorite, Fish Fillet!) at Alex III Quezon Avenue branch (transferred to Tomas Morato) many, many moons ago.

Now, it's not uncommon to go to Alex III when one craves for Japanese.

Shrimp Tempura Maki

I suggest to fully enjoy the this Shrimp Tempura Maki (P259), just pop it inside your mouth. Try.

Japanese Crab Salad

I love the texture and the choice of ingredients of this Japanese Crab Salad (P220).

Alex III: Double Boneless Chicken BBQ!

Alex III Restaurant
29 Matalino Street, QC

It's not surprising to know that Alex III's best sellers are the barbecues (Classic Chicken, U.S. Baby Backribs, Boneless Chicken, the Mixed Boneless Chicken and Pork, the Premium Pork and the Spareribs).

I can say that the taste and the quality haven't changed all these years. They still have the same sweet taste. They still use juicy chicken; the BBQ sauce is still as thick; the Achara is still the tart Achara and yes, even the Java Rice is still the same yellow Java Rice (with bits of meat). Isa lang ang nag-iba... how the Java Rice is presented on the plate. Now, it looked like the pyramids of Giza... without the pointed top.

Double Boneless
Chicken BBQ (P419)

I ordered for the Double. Guess why?

Impossible to resist!

Ryzza Mae & Tita Isabelle: Sino'ng Pikon?

Pikon? Wala!
Ryzza Mae and Tita Isabelle were just happily playing ball! They're always like that. Parang magkapatid na akala mo "nag-aaway" palagi but you can actually see that they enjoy the unusual but funny treatment they give each other. This behind-the-scenes video was taken on stage habang naghihintay sila ng cue.

Dolce Amore!

Dolce Amore
LG4 Lansbergh Place,
170 Tomas Morato, cor Scout Castor, QC

I love Dolce Amore thanks to Jerome for taking me here. It's here where we discussed the Juris Concert (as the director and EP) for UK Derma (the concert's producer).

Dolce Amore is a quaint coffee shop that bakes their own cakes. But I have to admit that I haven't really tried their baked goods only the sellers in the menu. And I tell you, they're dirt cheap.

The Sausage Roll, which I ate on my second visit, was this tummy-filling sausage wrapped in flour tortilla (with cheese!) which reminded me of the slightly spicy sausage-chili wrap I had one time which I really enjoyed.  As for the Beef Tapa, tama si Jerome. No wonder ito lagi niyang ang order everytime he's here. Ako naman, I had this after a few minutes of pigging-out on the Sausage Roll. Yes, I oinked my way home.
