Repost: DAHILAYAN GARDENS, BUKIDNON!

Best place to get married… kahit pa sa maling asawa.

It’s THAT beautiful. It’s a new events venue, only few couples have tied the knot here.

You soon forget the hellish dirt road you needed to punish yourself (and the car!) to reach Dahilayan Gardens where everything’s well maintained; airconditioned toilets working and even the outdoor fireplace is real, logs and all (there were only four of us on that very windy mountain top that day)!  Bad for the broken hearted, though… the longer you stay here, the more you miss him/her.

Anyway, the food was not the good. We had barbecued chicken and back ribs. The ribs were from old cows; the thighs and legs from a bulimic poultry. BUT NEVER MIND THAT! I did finish my anorexic barbecue which I downed with a slightly expired Coke Zero. Again, never mind that. I was in love with the place. I was in love with the long bench, the gazebo and the fireplace. I love the different kind of sadness the garden exudes. Don’t ask me to explain. Basta...

Crustasia's Crab: Delicious & Dangerous!

CRUSTASIA ASIAN BISTRO @Power Plant, Rockwell.

It was one of those days when things were just ordinary (dull). Nothing was happening. So, what to do?

What else but eat!  Tita wanted Crustasia in Rockwell. Why not? We had very good iced coffee with Calamari and of course, the popular and (very dangerous!) crab in oil with lots and lots of toasted garlic & chili!  At siyempre, lots and lots of juicy gossip on the side. Now, that’s LUNCH!

That lunch was a bit expensive (P3k+ to think there were only the two of us) but we definitely enjoyed it. We haven’t gone back there and it's almost a year ago.  If ever we do, iba na siguro ang magiging order namin. We survived that lunch. No use in tempting fate again.

Bizarre Foods: FORESKIN - The Most Bizarre!

Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern @ Travel Channel

"In Madagascar, Andrew and his wife Rishia experience a coming-of-age circumcision ceremony for a 5-year-old boy. As part of the custom, the grandfather eats the foreskin as a symbol of strength."

Honestly, I don't know how to label this blog post.
Food??

Good Sunday Lunch: Risotto & Rosemary Roast Chicken!

AMICI @ ATC

Sunday… Woke up early, met up with Tita N, had late breakfast of Marble Waffle (and bad iced Cappuccino) in Makati. Then, proceeded to Alabang to deliver a gift. Walked around for about an hour in ATC before yes, lunch.

The pig in me was going to eat again. What can he do? It’s lunch.

Amici is one of those places where… well… safe. I mean, you come in, eat and leave satisfied. You don’t expect a to-die-for food item here (except for this Chocolate Cake we had in the Ayala Triangle).  But I did enjoy the tender roasted chicken and the risotto.

The servers were well-trained and uh, nice… too nice, actually that when they accidentally pour the still simmering content of a soup tureen on your lap, you’ll feel the impulse of apologizing to them and leaving a big tip for their stress. They were like little boys and girls trying to please ate at kuya.

RISO AL SALTO CON ZUPPE DI PESCE
Seafood Chowder and Saffron flavored risotto (P305)

POLLO ARROSTITO
Baked rosemary half chicken served with vegetable (P290)
Love the flavor of rosemary and the tangy taste of tomatoes!

CPK S’mores Dessert Pizza!

California Pizza Kitchen @ Greenbelt 5
Tita Nelia and I almost always order the same food in CPK. Like when we had lunch after watching Spiderman (yes, we watched the first screening, opening day at G3!), we had the Thai Salad, Singaporean Roll (sometimes with pizza), bottomless Coke Zero and for dessert, Tiramisu. But not this time. I read from their dessert menu that they have this "new" sweet offering. At hindi ako nagkamali sa pag-order!

I was really, really liked it.

Pizza dough thinly pressed and topped with butter, crushed graham crackers, dark Belgian chocolate, marshmallow and walnuts. And baked in their stone oven. Served with vanilla ice ream! Can you imagine how good it is? Only Php170.

Usapang Fried Chicken #9 : Uncle John’s!

One lunch time in the office, I saw our practicumer eating at her cubicle. Sarap na sarap siya.  So, I had to ask her.

I didn’t know that Mini Stop had been carrying this product for quite a long time now.  At mura pa siya. I had to try it. Masarap nga. It reminded of Jollibee Chicken Joy when it was just starting… bigger-than-usual-chicken-parts, juicy and really crunchy. Ito yung tipo ng pagkain na kakainin mo kahit kaka-sweldo mo palang!

Kid you not!

"My Kitchen by Chef Chris" Overrated?

Good news. Foodies do not need to brave the long trip to Angeles, Pampanga to get to “C” Italian Dining. Chef Chris has opened his newest baby in Oasis Hotel in Paco Park. And Metro Manilans are ecstatic about this version of the Pampanga phenomenon.

Let me start by saying that “My Kitchen by Chef Chris” is casual dining with fine dining prices.  Meaning, if you dare bring your date in your Sunday best (and with a loaded wallet!), in my experience, be ready to share the restaurant with big, rowdy family reunions who occupy five tables with at least, four high chairs(!). And I'm talking only of one group (in this case, the Filipino family). I haven’t even started on the Chinese Family seated at the other side of the restaurant. Good luck. That’s casual dining for you.

Anyway, Tita Nelia didn’t like the food. The food here at “My Kitchen” is the kind of food that my Tita can easily prepare at her own kitchen (with her patented spread of the finest wares!), even better.  But to be fair about it, personally, “My Kitchen by Chef Chris” serves good food… but let me say, that it’s not the best Italian Dining (I still say that “Bistecca’s” Bistecca is still one of the best).

US Prime Angus Flank Steak

Php 1800 for 2-5 persons

Roasted Lamb Ribs with garlic-rosemary rub

I LOVE THIS RISOTTO!
