Ming Kee's Triple Cooked Crab Beehon!

Ming Kee Live Seafood
7852 Makati Avenue
Makati City
Tel. #8934533

Triple Cooked Crab Beehon

"Ming Kee Live Seafood Restaurant started in Singapore and is famous for its Triple Cooked Crab Beehon and other live seafood specialists. It is the first branch out of Singapore bringing its very well-known Southern Chinese Specialties in the Philippines for Filipinos to enjoy."

"Acknowledged as one of Singapore's best dishes. Ming Kee's Crab Beehon is stir-fried, steamed and braised to perfectly infuse our secret flavors together with the rice noodles and the moist succulent crabs. The rice noodles is actually imported all the way from Singapore, thus, you would feel the texture and the quality is very different from the local rice noodles."

Succulent Chicken at Boon Tong Kee!

Boon Tong Kee at Rockwell

Yes, the chicken was unbelievably succulent. It was tender and very flavorful (with or without the special sauce).

I always see this Boon Tong Kee everytime we watch at Rockwell. Right beside the very American Burgoo, this restaurant can be considered “quiet,” none of the nakakahilong pa-noveau look ng iba.

One of my Tita Nelia’s best friends (Ms. Gayle) treated us to lunch here and I must say that we all loved the food. Personally, their Boiled Chicken (P475) was extra-ordinarily good and so was the Crispy Beancurd (P185) which we had two orders of. We didn’t have enough time to try their dessert. Sayang. The screening of “Despicable Me 2” was already starting so we had to no choice but leave. Just the same, we really enjoyed the lunch. Thank you, Ms. Gayle!

Slimy, Gummy and Crunchy Oyster Cake!

Mann Hann, Greenhills

Sometimes, it gets to a point when I rather have my meal at a familiar place where I don't need to open the menu (or ask the servers about their best sellers), give my orders and just wait for my food. Stress-free... for everybody. Tita Nelia and I did just that when we were at Greenhills one time. We were on our way to the car when we passed by Mann Hann. We entered and ordered standard Chinese. Nothing can be more boring than Sweet and Sour Pork, Yang Chow and Oyster Cake. But hey, we l-o-v-e it!

Mann Hann's Sweet and Sour Pork can never hold a candle to Summer Palace's but it will do. It might be a bit on the tart side but like what I said, okay na yun. And of course, there's the Oyster Cake. It was a little brown than usual but the texture (a deliciously slimy, gummy and crunchy!) I adore was still there.

Usapang Fried Chicken #21: CHOI PALACE!

Choi Palace @ Eastwood Mall

Gab and I love Fried Chicken. So, together with our order of Sweet and Sour Pork and Birthday Noodles, we greedily finished a whole bird. To be honest about it, there was nothing special with Choi Palace's fried chicken except that it was not dry. The meat was extra juicy. And yes, the skin was slightly crispy. And that for me, were enough reasons to enjoy our dinner.

So, Gab, when you are coming back?

Sweet and Sour Pork at Choi Palace!

Choi Palace @ Eastwood Mall

There is only one thing I don't particularly like when Gabby, one of my best friends (he's from Denver), comes in for a visit. And that is... I gain weight every time. As in, I GAIN weight. Both Gab and I love food and he sees to it to try out the restaurants I have posted here in my blog.

That particular day, both of us were craving for Chinese food so I took him to Choi Palace in Eastwood. I ordered for the "classic" Chinese... Sweet and Sour Pork and Birthday Noodles with Fried Chicken.

How was it? The Sweet and Sour Pork was too tart for me. I want my Sweet and Sour to have that balanced sweetness and sourness. Pero okay pa rin, naubos pa rin namin.

GenSan City: Mandarin Tea Garden!

Mandarin Tea Garden @ SM General Santos City

Honestly, I don't have any idea  if we have Mandarin Tea Garden in Manila. I don't think so. Of course, I may be wrong. From what I read, (managing owner) Uptown Plaza Corporation's home city is Davao City and for the last nine or so years has been expanding in Southern Mindanao and they started with Cagayan de Oro and General Santos Cities.

Our group saw this restaurant while malling in SM General Santos deciding where to have our lunch. Maraming tao and you would know immediately na kilalang-kilala siya.  Mann Hann ang dating niya. Uncomplicated, very affordable chinese. It's a relief from the onslaught of visually striking restaurants from Singapore serving Asian Cuisine. One can only take so much.

Who Doesn't Know Emerald Garden?

Emerald Garden @ Roxas Boulevard

I’m sure that I’ve eaten here at Emerald Garden once in my young life with my family (I just don’t remember when). Who would not know of this restaurant right in front of the US Embassy? Their signage has become a part in the Roxas Boulevard landscape. Sabi nga, institusyon na.

We were a bit early to Varekai (Cirque du Soleil) in Quirino Grandstand so we decided to have our dinner first. Tita N suggested Emerald Garden. I (excitedly) agreed. We had the usual Chinese noodles, (yang chao) fried rice, sweet and sour pork and broccoli (sorry, I don't remember the prices, we ate there more than a year ago).

Oh, I remember that the pork of the Sweet and Sour was on the tough side. I want my pork to be tender and yes, boneless and extra crispy.  And the sauce? It must be sour, never tangy, never with a biting sour taste.  Still, we enjoyed our dinner.

Passionate for PASSION!

PASSION @ Resorts World

We trooped to Resorts World to burn the mega-calories of lunch only to have them back by dinner.  Thanks (or no thanks) to PASSION.

PASSION serves good food. Real food. You know for a fact that ingredients used here are walang daya.

It’s expensive here. Well, what do you expect from a restaurant located within a casino complex?

And the star of the dining table?
Fish in Pomelo Sauce!
Really, really good!

The Taste, Smell and Feel of Authentic Chinese Breakfast!

Emerald Garden @ Roxas Boulevard

Originally, my Tita (Nelia Silverio) and I were supposed to have Pinoy breakfast at Aristocrat in Roxas Boulevard but the place is under renovation. She decided to have Chinese breakfast at Emerald Garden instead. Why not? Pretty interesting.

The last time I was here was for dinner when we watched Varekai at the Quirino Grandstand almost a year ago. Its time for another visit.

Emerald Garden, I would say, is an authentic Chinese restaurant... none of the fusion, modern-artsy concept that's high on the visual rating scale but zero on the taste factor. So, saan ka?

I know what I like.

Hmmm... Emerald's Big Siopao or Kowloon's Jumbo Pao?

We ordered two of each!
