Bacolod's Lord Byron's Back Ribs!

Lord Byron's Back Ribs
Bacolod City

Back Ribs with
Achara & Java Rice

It was our second visit to Bacolod City and first thing we did was to arrange our schedule that we can squeeze in Lord Byron's Back Ribs. We just had to have the Back Ribs again.

You don't need to know the exact address of Lord Byron. Just tell your taxi diver and you'll be taken there. That's how the place is known by the locals. Anyway, what makes the Back Ribs special? The sauce. It's sweet & tangy and the meat, very tender! And yes, deliciously fatty (you don't eat this everyday!).

Ryzza Mae: 'La Lang!

'La lang!
Yup, 'la lang... Senti lang. We were just looking at Ryzza Mae during a commercial break at aliw na aliw kami sa kanya. How we remembered when she started almost two years ago! We were there when she won the Little Miss Philippines title and how she stole our hearts!

Ngayon, confident na confident na siya. She is now in "complete control" of her lines and alam niya ang kiliti ng mga humahanga sa kanya. Now, she is a multi-awarded and the youngest TV host in the whole world! She can make us laugh... cry... make us proud.

She has gone a long way... at eight years old. Sabi nga, she's one talented girl. And she's getting better. And better. And she's here to stay for a long, long time.

Alex III: Inihaw na Bangus Belly!

L26 B14 Chevelle Cor.
Pontiac Sts., South Fairview
Park Subd., Fairview, QC

Inihaw na Bangus Belly (P349)

Aside from the popular barbecue menu items, Inihaw na Bangus Belly is also a big seller in Alex III Restaurant (especially in the Fairview branch).

Tip: crush the siling Labuyo, add soy sauce and squeeze the calamansi and make it your sawsawan. Lastly, order for Garlic Rice. Wow.

Ryzza Mae, Surprise! Surprise!

Surprise! Surprise!

That's why she's a well-loved baby!

Ryzza Mae: Best Child Performer Nominee! Vote Na!

Well, magkakaroon nang, for the first time, Dabarkads Awards kunsaan nominated ang ating multi-awarded television host as Best Child Performer! The winner will be announced on Saturday, April 26, 2014!

Yes, Ryzza... you're really talented plus you're well-loved!

Right?

Ryzza Mae: Gigil! Gigil! Gigil!

Nanggigil!

They used to play ang run around the recording room at madalas na binubuhat ni Aleng Maliit ang kanyang munting kalaro! Talaga namang pinanggigilan habang nagpo-pose for the camera ang dalawa!

Olive Oil Ice Cream, Carrot Cake, Blackout Choco Cake!

Poco Deli
Unit 9 Ayala Triangle Gardens
Makati City

Olive Oil Ice Cream (P125)

While my companions were having fun with Stella Artois (P220) and Corona (P220) with a platter of different sausages, I, on the other hand, was binging on dessert. Oh yes, that night, I was on a roll. You can't blame me. They were really good.

KIMUKATSU!

Kimukatsu
5th Level, East Wing
Shangri-la Plaza

"Kimukatsu is the most famous pork cutlet in Japan with branches in Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama, Sendai. The secret of our popularity is the combination of a crispy, texture-rich batter surrounding a juicy flavorful 25-layered pork cutlet."

"This layered cutlet is covered with fresh breadcrumbs and fried slowly for eight minutes. It is then, set vertically for two minutes to steam allowing the heat to spread evenly."

Alex III: California Maki!

L26 B14 Chevelle Cor.
Pontiac Sts., South Fairview
Park Subd., Fairview, QC

California Maki

Of all the Sushi preps, I say that California Maki remains the Pinoy favorite. I think. Well, it's my favorite, anyway.

I like Alex III's version. They topped an of order of six rolls with Kani strips tossed in Japanese Mayo, Cucumber, and yes, ripe Mango. That in itself is already a complete meal.

Bec-Bec Coffee of Ilo-Ilo: Deliciously Nutty!

Bec-Bec Cafe
Boliland Garden Food & Drinks Park
Brgy. Bolilao, Mandurriao, Iloilo City

If on vacation, I avoid going to places which can be found in Manila (fast food joints, coffee shops). That's why I specifically asked by good friend, Donnie Ledesma, to take me to places in Ilo-Ilo na hindi ko kilala. And since we have been eating most part of the day, kailangan naming mag-coffee.  I didn't have to ask twice.

He took me to Boliland Garden Food & Drinks Park. It's like a Food Court na wala sa mall at walang aircon. It's a park where people eat that becomes a concert place at night. Ganun ka-cool. That was where I had a cup of very good coffee at an unpretentious little place called Bec-Bec Cafe. Why good? It's strong, bold and I loved the nutty taste (I thought maybe, the beans used were freshly-roasted?). Whatever. Basta, the "nuttiness" worked for me. Again, thanks Donnie!

Ryzza's Lost Files: Funny Smiiiile!

Smiiiiiile!
Right after her show finished, dumerecho Ryzza Mae sa backstage kunsaan ay may naghihintay na fan na gustong magpakuha ng photo with her.

Super Halo-Halo in Ilo-Ilo City!

Nida's Super Halo-Halo
Ilo-Ilo City

I had the most generous, hilarious and the "most efficient tour guide" when I visited Ilo-Ilo City. And yes, Donnie Ledesma, (a schoolmate from Ateneo) took me to places a foodie would kill for.

After an extremely interesting lunch of fresh oysters and other catch from the sea (details coming soon!) Donnie took me to a palengke where the best Halo-Halo is located.  Sadly, it was closed when we got there. So, we went to the "next best Halo-Halo in the city."

They say for Halo-Halo to be good, it must have a good combination of ingredients. I agree. Nida's Halo-Halo is not only good but the best I've ever had. I kid you not. I enjoyed the red and green sago, corn, halaya, leche flan, corn flakes, fresh Mango and Avocado cubes.

And the price of one Super bowl? P30!

Donnie also took me to the original Ted's Old Timer Lapaz Batchoy
which is just a stone throw away
