Hay Naku Moments # 1

Much is said about Filipino weirdness err… uniqueness. Some cute, some really funny while the rest, well… pretty annoying. Of course, everyone knows about the “Repetitiously Redundant Filipino.” Like the other day. I was with this group who’s having an unusually good day. Malamig ang ulo ng lahat. Sun was shining bright, the day was gay (I mean, blissful). Not an oily face in sight. We started talking about food for lunch.  One wanted chicken from the old finger-licking dirty-old man in white; another chose spaghetti with fried chicken from the obese, red bumble bee and two wanted nuggets with Coke float from the gay clown in kabuki.

Then someone shrieked “PIZZA PIE” with supreme glee and unparalleled delight. Thrice.

Nag-turon na lang ako sa canteen.  Biglang dumilim ang langit. Uulan.

Road Trip to Healing & Re-discovery

I could say that we three are very good friends. Best friends even (of loooong standing). Dong returned from the States to visit a sick dad who eventually passed on. A few days after the funeral, we took a road trip to Tagaytay.

And then, it happened.

We three started bitching and laughing like it was Ateneo High School circa 80’s. Sabi ko, tamang-tama isasama ko sa new blog ko. But I had to edit out the “delicate” parts of the chikahan. Demanda ang katapat kapag lumabas, sabi ng duktor sa amin.

We laughed, talked to the others over the phone and before we knew it, we were at SONYA’S already. Nagulat ako because it has been years since I last visited here. The food was no different except for the presentation and the quantity. Better I should say.

Usapang Fried Chicken #1: SAVORY

Tomay-to or Tomah-to, Potay-to or Potah-to, Say-vory or Sah-vory… whatever. Savory is Savory. Classic. I remember when I used to work for Mila’s Lechon many moons back, I had a (genuine!) chef who gave me (well guarded… well, not anymore!) the recipe for Savory Chicken!

Together with the gravy (personally I feel that it kills the Savory taste!), I think I was able to clone a Savory Chicken in our big kitchen (that’s after 2-3 chicken failures). I did include it in our catering business and clients and guests loved it… though not one commented that it tasted like Savory. It was good for business but bad for my ego. Does anybody know THAT ONE SPECIFIC INGREDIENT that makes Savory Chicken, Savory Chicken?? Hah! I do! 

The Horse That Flies Up, Up & Away!

I chanced upon the alleged “Gandang Gabi, Vice” farewell episode (alleged dahil before the show ended, may alleged  announcement from the ABS-CBS management na ibabalik na ang show the following Sunday) last week.

Since I repeatedly tell myself na hindi exclusively food blog ang FRIED CHICKEN., I considered writing about Petrang Kabayo. Why not?

Many moons back, our college group had an Italian restaurant in Pasong Tamo, Makati.  On its 3rd Anniversary, we had a really bonggang party to coincide with the restaurant’s new look.

The Lost Son Is Back Home!

It’s been a long time since my blogging days. I was deep into food blogging until Facebook exploded. It wasn’t a major, major decision to just hop over. Half of “my readers” hopped with me. The other half were purists: Kung blogs, blogs. Kung Facebook, Facebook. The divorce happened three years ago.
